Vipareet Karni Mudra (विपरीत करणी मुद्रा): Precautions, Technique & Benefits

Vipareet Karni Mudra (Inverted Gesture) – The word Vipareet Karni Mudra is derived from Sanskrit. Vipareet means Inverted, Karni means Action and Mudra means Gesture, seal or altitude. It is a full body gesture. Vipareet Karni is also practised as Asan. The purpose of this Mudra is to redirect the energy upwards.

Vipareet Karni Mudra: विपरीत करणी मुद्रा

Precautions:

People suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease and back pain should not practice this Mudra.

Technique:

Lie flat on your back, keeping the legs straight and together. Arms are straight, beside the body and palms are facing downwards. Close your eyes and relax your whole body. While inhaling, raise both the legs, keeping them straight and together, experiencing that the breath and consciousness are moving from Manipur Chakra to Vishuddhi Chakra. Bend your elbows and place both the palms on the hips to support the body. The weight of the body should rest on the shoulders, neck and elbows. Bring the trunk at a 45° angle to the floor. While exhaling, keep your awareness at Vishuddhi Chakra. After exhalation, bring your awareness at Manipur Chakra behind the navel in the spine. Hold this position as long as is comfortable, rotating your awareness between Manipur and Vishuddhi Chakras. At the end, return to the starting position and take rest.
