This is part of Rokerthon 3, a challenge to set records on college campuses on the Today show with NBC’s Al Roker.

The Guinness World Records world record for the largest backwards walk consists of 1,107 participants and was achieved by Prestige Institute of Management and Research (India) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, on 2 March 2014.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest barefoot walk; it consisted of 7,050 participants and was organised by National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Acharya Nagarjuna University (India) in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India, on 12 December 2012.

The previous Guinness world record was set in US last September, by Northeastern University with 376 people.

For those unfamiliar, crab walking is a form of upside down, backward crawling wherein one moves on their hands and feet with hips off the ground and chest toward the sky.

The crab walk must begin with participants seated on the ground, with hands and feet shoulder-width apart. The actual crab walking must last for at least two consecutive minutes.

The mid-size university of about 6,000 students prepared for the event for two weeks, The Baltimore Sun reports.
The marketing department and the students spared no efforts. Cheerleaders, an a cappella group, the ukelele club, and hundreds of screaming crab-walk participants and spectators packed the quad for the television spectacle. Many made signs or held up cutouts of Roker’s face.
