Ramayana: Movie Overview
Ramayan is an upcoming Indian epic film directed by Nitesh Tiwari and written by Shridhar Raghavan. The film is based on the ancient Indian text Ramayana, one of the most important epics of Hinduism. The film is the first installment of a planned two-part series.
It stars Ranbir Kapoor (as Ram), Ravi Dubey (as Lakshman), Sai Pallavi (as Sita), Sunny Deol (as Hanuman) and Yash (as Raavan) in lead roles. Other cast members include Amitabh Bachchan, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Vivek Oberoi, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Sheeba Chaddha, Indira Krishnan and Shobana.
The film is made on the largest Indian film budget ever, estimated at ₹2,600 – 4,000 crore. It is produced by Namit Malhotra ‘s Prime Focus Studios, Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, and Charles Roven’s American studio Atlas Entertainment, but was entirely shot and edited in India. The visual effects (VFX) were handled by the British-Indian studio DNEG. The film is scheduled to be released in India on 6 November 2026, coinciding with Diwali.
The film’s music is composed by world-renowned German composer, Hans Zimmer (who is working on his first Indian project ), and A. R. Rahman.
