The Guinness World Records world record for the largest cheerleading dance is by 1,371 people, achieved by Wing Dance Promotion Co., Ltd. (Japan) at Maihama Amphitheater, in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, on 30 August 2015.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Largest cheerleading cheer at a single venue; it is 1,278 and was achieved by Science Cheerleaders & Pop Warner (both USA) at the Sun National Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey, USA, on 12 November 2011.

Tauranga MP Simon Bridges and Tauranga City councillor Bill Grainger were there as witnesses to the record attempt, The Bay of Plenty Times reports.

Bay Twisters chairwoman Rebecca Grigson said about 700 athletes from throughout NZ competed in the cheerleading and dance competition.

“It was the first time we have had dance, which was pretty cool. It was an amazing success.”

The cheerleading pyramid had to be a minimum of three levels high and held for at least 30 seconds. To meet the world record requirements, the attempt had to be videoed, and the height of the pyramid measured, as well as using an approved method of timing, The Sun Live reports.
