Agnisar Pranayama (अग्निसार प्राणायाम): Agnisar Kriya is a pranayama as well as a part of Shatkarma. In Shatkarma, this kriya is known as Vahnisar Dhauti. The word ‘Agni’ and ‘Vahni’ both mean ‘fire’. When fire weakens, it needs to be fanned to increase its power. Agnisar Kriya helps to increase the digestive fire and improves the appetite.

If Agnisar Pranayama is performed on a regular basis, one can become an expert in doing Nauli Kriya (The Abdominal Churning).
Agnisar Pranayama: Precautions
People suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure, abdominal ulcer, hernia or chronic diarrhoea, should not practice this pranayama. During pregnancy also, a woman should avoid this pranayama.
Technique:
Sit in Padmasana or any other meditation. posture. Place both the hands on knees in Chin Mudra. The spine, neck and head should be straight in one line. Close your eyes gently. Inhale deeply and apply Moolbandh. Exhale. Empty the lungs as much as possible and apply Jalandhar Bandha. Lean forward slightly, straightening the elbows. Now contract and expand abdominal muscles repeatedly with external Kumbhaka. Keep moving your abdominal muscles during the time of External Kumbhaka as long as is comfortable. Now release Jalandhar Bandha and breathe in. Relax yourself until the respiration returns to normal. This is one round. Repeat 3 rounds. After completing the rounds, return to the prior position and take rest. Increase the number of rounds and, time of breath retention gradually. Over a period of time.

Physical awareness is on the movements of abdominal muscles. Spiritual awareness is on the Manipur Chakra.
