She was 13 years and 268 days old when she won the gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, in the 3-metre springboard diving event. Her victory was watched by Adolf Hitler. As the 1940 and 1944 games were not held due to WWII, she didn�t get a chance to defend her title. She came back in the 1948 London Olympics. Danish swimmer Inge Sorensen won the bronze in the 200-m breaststroke, aged 12 years, 24 days. She remains the youngest ever competitor to win an Olympic medal in an individual event.
