Where was the wheel invented?

Where was the wheel invented? The wheel is one of man’s most important inventions, but no one is sure, how, when, or where it was first developed. It is probable that early in man’s development, the idea came to someone of using a tree trunk as a huge roller for moving heavy objects. We do have proof that, by 3500 BC, the wheel was in use in Mesopotamia-the area known today as Iraq and Syria. Tablets unearthed from this period show soldiers in wheeled chariots.

In England, the ancient monument known as Stonehenge, has huge rocks dating to about 1500 BC. Since these rocks are not native to England, but come from Western Wales, 480 kilometers away, it is likely that they were transported from Wales to England by the use of the wheel. Without the wheel, no transportation would be possible today!
