“Hearts” is the theme of the 2009-2010 love stamp, a play on words that evokes the heart suit in a deck of cards as well as Valentine’s Day hearts. The stamp is perfect for mailing Valentine’s Day cards, love letters, and wedding invitations.
The 39¢ love stamp, issued January 13, 2007, features the iconic shape of one of America’s favorite milk-chocolate candies, Hershey’s Kisses, set against a passionate red background. Couples of the mind that chocolate equals love will find this stamp especially delectable.
The 2006 love stamp, showing two love birds perched on a branch, was issued January 2, 2006.
The 2005 love stamp, portraying a hand holding a bouquet of flowers, had as its release date February 18.
The 2004 love stamp for Valentine’s Day postage was the love stamp that featured an illustration of yellow and pink heart-shaped candies that together say “I Love You.” It was created by Michael Osborne of San Francisco.
“Since 1973, the Love stamp has been a popular addition to cards and letters mailed to friends and loved ones all year long and particularly to celebrate Valentine’s Day,” said David Failor, executive director of Stamp Services for the Postal Service.”
The first Love stamp was issued by the Postal Service in 1973 with a denomination of 8 cents and an iconic design by pop artist Robert Indiana. Since that time, Love stamps have featured a wide range of subjects, including flowers, animals, cherubs and love letters as well as abstract designs.
