Marquette, Michigan, USA – April 29, 2017 – Northern Michigan University has freeze tagged its way into the record books; with weather anchor Al Roker in attendance and NBC’s “Today” broadcasting live from Marquette, 634 people piled into the Superior Dome to break the Guinness World Record for the largest game of freeze tag.

Photo: Northern Michigan University students crushed a previous Guinness World Record by playing the largest-ever game of freeze tag at the Superior Dome. The effort was broadcast live by the Today show’s Al Roker as part of his five-day Rokerthon 3.

The Guinness World Records world record for the largest game of tag was achieved by 2,202 students from Elkhart Community Schools (USA), in Elkhart, Indiana, USA, on 24 May 2013.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest game of balloon tag; it consisted of 280 participants and was achieved by ISS (UK & Ireland) in London, UK, on 28 January 2016.

Freeze tag is a variation of the game tag where the person has to “freeze” in place when they are touched.

Northern Michigan University students crushed a previous Guinness World Record by playing the largest-ever game of freeze tag at the Superior Dome.

The effort was broadcast live by the Today show’s Al Roker as part of his five-day Rokerthon 3.

Roker and a Guinness World Record ‘adjudicator’ presented Northern President Fritz Erickson with a certificate after 634 students played tag for 15 consecutive minutes.

The effort easily beat the previous Guinness world record of 438.
