Bhujangasana: Variation I
Lie flat on the stomach. Assume Makarasana, placing the right side of head on your hands and relax the body. Now join both the heels and toes. Place the forehead on the ground. Bend both the arms and place both the palms just beside the body on the floor. Forearms and elbows should remain close to the body. While inhaling, raise the head, shoulders and chest up to the navel region. Bringing the upper arms to the vertical position, bend your head backward. Do not allow to raise the forearms and hands from the floor. Hold this position as long as is comfortable. Concentrate on breath and back muscles. While exhaling, come back slowly and place the forehead on the floor. Assume Makarasana, placing the left side of head on the hands and relax the whole body.

Bhujangasana: Variation II
Already you are lying flat on the floor in Makarasana. Now join your heels and toes. Place both the palms on the floor besides the shoulders. Fingers should remain together and pointing forward. Place the forehead on the ground. While inhaling, raise the head, shoulders, neck and trunk region, straightening your elbows. Arch the back and tilt the head backward. The arms should be straight. Stay in the final position as long as is comfortable with normal breath. While exhaling, return to the starting position and take rest in Makarasana. This asan becomes more beneficial if it is followed by forward bending asana.
