What is the history of sport snowboarding?

The first snowboards can be traced back to the 1920s when men and older boys would take plywood or boards from the sides of barrels tied together. In 1964, a young surf freak called Sherman Poppen was dreaming about surfing the magic winter landscape of the Rockies. As a consequence, he built a surfboard for the snow. The first real snowboard hit the market during the 1960s in the form of Sherman Poppen’s Snurfer. As snowboarding became more popular other surfers came up with new snowboard designs.
