Michael is an upcoming American biographical musical drama film directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, based on the life of the American singer, songwriter, and dancer Michael Jackson. Jaafar Jackson, Jackson’s nephew, stars in his film debut as Michael Jackson. The ensemble cast also features Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate and Derek Luke.
Development for a biopic about Michael Jackson was reported to have begun in November 2019, with Logan attached to write the screenplay. Lionsgate announced the film in February 2022, and casting began later that June. Fuqua was announced as film’s director in January 2023, when Michael’s nephew Jaafar was cast in the main role, and further casting took place from January to April 2024. Filming began that January, after being delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, and ended that May. Additional photography took place in June 2025.
Michael is scheduled for release in the United States on April 24, 2026, by Lionsgate and by Universal Pictures internationally.
