Most transplant recipients in one place: One Legacy breaks record

Los Angeles, California, USA – May 5, 2016 — Every year, One Legacy hosts a noncompetitive “Donate Life Run/Walk” event during National Donate Life Month to raise awareness and money for organ and tissue donation; this year, One Legacy raised over $200,000 and successfully gathered the largest group of organ transplant recipients in one place at one time with 314 participants.

The Guinness World Records world record for the largest gathering of heart transplant recipients is 189 and was achieved by Duke Heart transplant program (USA) at the Washington Duke Inn, Durham, North Carolina, USA, on 7 September 2014.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Longest surviving single lung transplant patient; it is Veronica Dwyer (Ireland, b. 22 March 1941) who has lived 27 years and 112 days since her transplant on 19 May 1988 in Harefield, Middlesex, UK, as verified on 8 September 2015.

One Legacy is the nonprofit organization dedicated to organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation serving the greater Los Angeles area. It serves 215 hospitals and 11 transplant centers within the greater Los Angeles County.
