566 Sears employees descended upon Chicago dressed up as the "Man of Steel" to break a Guinness World Record; the gathering, which took place at the Sears Holding Place, broke the Guinness World Record for the most people dressed as Superman in one place.
The previous Guinness world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Superman was 437, achieved by Nexen Inc. (Canada) at the Nexen Inc. headquarters in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest Superman dance, which involved 369 participants and was achieved by William Edwards School and Sports College (UK) in Grays, Essex, UK.
To qualify, each costume had to feature red boots, a blue bodysuit, a yellow belt, the signature Superman "S" and a red cape.
Each Sears Holdings participant was dressed in the same one-piece cloth suit, red cape and red boots in order to meet the guidelines, The Daily Herald reported.
The costumes were supplied by Sears, employees said.
This event was a tie-in to "Man of Steel," the newest Superman movie coming out June 14. Sears is featured in the film, company spokesman Brian Hanover said.
"In the film, Superman catches a locomotive and is thrown into a Sears store," Hanover said. "And Superman's Earth mom, Martha Kent, works at Sears." |
