The FleurBurger, made by French cook Hubert Kelleris at his just-opened Las Vegas restaurant Fleuris, is filled with Japanese Kobe beef, foie gras and black truffle on a brioche truffle bun with truffle sauce and costs $5,000 - setting the new world record for the Most Expensive Burger.
French cook Hubert Keller (PBS' "Secrets of a Chef," Bravo's "Top Chef Masters") put the burger on the menu at his Fleur restaurant at the luxury Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino on the Vegas Strip.
It is served with a bottle of Chateau Petrus 1995, a red from Bordeaux, which is priced at £3,340.
The Guinness world record the largest commercially available hamburger weighs 136.2 kg (300 lb 4 oz) and is available for 150,000 yen (£1,144.76, $1,780.59) at Phoenix Seagaia Resort in Miyazaki, Japan.
Guinness World Records also recognized the most expensive hamburger commercially available: THE Burger and was available on the menu of Burger King (UK) for £95 (US$186). The limited edition burger was sold in the Gloucester Road restaurant, London, UK.
What makes it so pricey? Lots of expensive ingredients. Start with a Kobe beef "patty" (more like a mountain of ground primo cow flesh), then top it with foie gras and black truffles. Oh, and don't forget the "special sauce," which is made with – no surprise – more truffles.
The World's Most Expensive Burger comes with a bottle of Petrus (the 1995 vintage, to be exact, dubbed by Wine Spectator magazine as "a genie in the bottle"). And don't forget the stemware, either: Diners get a pair of Ichendorf Brunello glasses, imported from Italy (and the glasses are shipped to their home, post-feast).
Hubert, who stars on US show Top Chef, added the burger to his menu after rival chef Daniel Boulud, who is based in New York, cooked up a £63 truffle burger.
He said: "I thought to myself: 'I have to put a burger on the map that will beat that one, just for fun.'
"And I give you the wine for $300 less, so it's a bargain."
But diners with stricter budgets can chow down on Fleur restaurant's tuna taco for £6, or a croque-monsieur, a grilled cheese sandwich, for £4.
Keller's restaurant team anticipates selling only six FleurBugers a year.
