Residents of Tarkington Hall have built a fortress of 563 white bedsheets, normally used during summer months for visiting campers living in the residence halls, setting the new world record for the Largest sheet fortress.
The previous Guinness world record for ther largest sheet fortress was also set in Tarkington, but was constructed only in the lobby. Both records are held by the Halberdier Club of Tarkington Hall.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Most popular Team Fortress 2 Character: the Engineer, who is the character of choice for 15% of all players, which makes him the game's most popular protagonist.
Tarkington resident Connor Maguire, a freshman in the College of Science, and staff resident Michael Burgess, a graduate student, led the fortress building efforts.
"The lobby, I would say, is roughly the size of an NBA basketball court and the room we expanded into is roughly the size of half a basketball court," Maguire said.
There was no specific floor plan to follow; however, several rooms were built within the tent. "It was really fun that way because people got creative," Maguire said.
"In the end, we ended up having a sheriff's office, a video game room, a card playing room, two lounges, a disco lounge, a dining room and even a throne room."
Next year's vision for the Grand Alternative event includes utilizing Shreve Hall's even larger lobby.
"Shreve has a big and open lobby and we could hang more sheets in there," Maguire said. |
