The Guinness World Records world record for the youngest open heart surgery patient is Chanel Murrish (UK, b. 24 February 2014) who was one minute old when she had the operation, in Tyne and Wear, Newcastle, UK, on 24 February 2014.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the oldest operating pharmaceutical factory is the Guangzhou Chenliji Pharmaceutical Factory, which has been operating since it was founded in 1600. The record was verified in Guangzhou City, China, on 25 September 2010.

To help the prompt recovery of patients by reducing their pain and bleeding after the surgery, Dr. Jae Hoon Chung, director of Segyero Hospital, has performed as many as 3,220 cases of 7-9 cm minimal invasive artificial knee joint surgery from May 1, 2005, to January 31, 2016, recording the world’s highest number of surgeries for the given period.

Dr. Jae Hoon Chung also performed 626 cases of MIS (Minimal Invasive Surgeries) from January 1 to December 31, 2014.

Generally, artificial knee joints surgeries are performed by cutting the skin to about 13-15 cm, completely turning over the kneecap, and desquamating much of the surrounding soft tissue. As such, they greatly damage the surrounding tissue and result in severe bleeding and pain after the surgeries. Also, they suffer from the disadvantage of taking a long time to recover.

Dr. Chung performs artificial knee joint surgeries using minimal invasive surgery techniques of cutting the knees by 7-9 cm, not turning over the kneecap, and minimizing damages to the surrounding soft tissue.  Through this procedure, the patients’ pain and bleeding are alleviated, thus helping them quickly recover from the surgery.

MIS is very difficult and takes a long time to learn. It also demands patience and precision.

Dr. Chung has worked hard to provide better quality medical services to his patients by performing MIS despite having faced more problems in performing such type of surgery rather than general surgeries. His wish is that MIS surgical skills would become widely known and contribute to the advancement of Korea’s medical industry, thus enabling more patients to benefit from MIS.

The Korea Record Institute, which submit records from South Korea to the World Record Academy, verified this record and will present a record certificate to Dr. Jae Hoon Chung.
