The Guinness World Records world record for the most people crocheting simultaneously is 485 and was achieved by American University of Nigeria (Nigeria) in Yola, Nigeria, on 24 April 2015.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest crochet chain; it measures 130 km (80.78 miles) and was created by Anne Vanier-Drüssel (France). It was presented and measured in Aniane, France, on 14 October, 2009.

Singleton exceeded the 485 people set by the American University of Nigeria in Yola, Nigeria in 2015 to claim the world record and hook into history, The Singleton Argus reports.

Mayor of Singleton Cr Sue Moore, Singleton Festival chairman Cr Danny Thompson, Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen and General Manager Jason Linnane were among those who took up their hooks under the leadership of the Singleton Crafters.

The record attempt marked the official launch of the Singleton Festival, the town’s biennial celebration of all things food, wine, music and art.
