UK Guinness World Records: Most countries visited in 24 hours

London, UK – May 31, 2016 – Internet entrepreneur Adam Leyton, 39, of Horsforth, has set a record for the most countries visited in 24 hours using only public transport; he made his epic European day trip from May 25 to 26, starting in Perl, Germany, then travelling through Luxembourg, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and finally Austria.

The Guinness World Records world record for the most countries visited by bicycle in 24 hours is 4 and was achieved by Glen Burmeister (UK) who cycled through the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary on 29 – 30 April 2013.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Most countries visited in 24 hours by scheduled transport, set by Alison Bailey, Ian Bailey, John English and David Kellie who visited 11 countries travelling solely by train in 24 hours from 1 to 2 May 1993.

The previous Guinness World Records world record, set in 1993, saw 11 countries hit in 24 hours,

Beginning in at 7.01 am in Perl, in Germany close to the border with Luxembourg on May 25, the dad-of-three, passed through Luxembourg, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary before crossing the border into Austria.

The final stretch of his journey, crossing from Hungary into Austria, saw him make a mad 4km dash through the Hungarian and Austrian the border in order to complete the challenge in time.

Leyton, who comes from Leeds, England, set out on his epic expedition to raise money for Sands, a charity helping people affected by the death of a baby before, during or after birth. His efforts helped to raise more than 1,000 GBP for the charity.
