Largest ice cream making lesson: Schiele Museum breaks Guinness World Records record

Gastonia, NC, USA – February 25, 2016 – The Schiele Museum of Natural History celebrated the 100th anniversary of Tony’s Ice Cream with an exhibit called “The Scoop on Ice Cream;” a special ice cream making event brought together 274 volunteers who were filmed taking part in the activity, thus setting the world record for the largest ice cream making lesson.

The Guinness World Records world record for the largest ice cream cake weighed 10.13 tonnes (22,333.6 lb) and was achieved by Dairy Queen Canada at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on 10 May 2011. The cake measured 4.45 m (14 ft 7 in) long, 4.06 m (13 ft 3 in) wide, and 1 m (3 ft 3 in) tall.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest scoop of ice-cream; it weighed 1365kg 312.93g (3,010 lb) and was created by Kemps LLC (USA), in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, USA on 28 June 2014.

The Schiele Museum of Natural History celebrated the 100th anniversary of Tony’s Ice Cream with an exhibit called “The Scoop on Ice Cream.” The display looked at the origins and chemistry of the dessert while also profiling the local family business that’s produced it here for five generations.

Each participant was given a special kit, consisting of a couple of bags with staple ingredients such as ice, rock salt and more.

They all had to combine and shake it all together for a couple of minutes to create their own servings of ice cream.
