Trinidad and Tobago Encyclopedia & Facts:

Trinidad and Tobago is the most economically developed of the Caribbean nations. The economy is based on oil and forestry. Forests cover less than one-half of the entire area of the country. Oil is drilled in the shallow offshore seas, but much is imported for refining from Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador as well as from such remote countries as Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.

The mineral resources also include rich natural gas-fields and the largest reserves of natural asphalt (bitumen) in the world. The most advanced industries are petrochemicals, chemicals, foodstuffs and textiles. Tourism is very important.

The roads are very good, and air and sea routes link the islands with the South American mainland and overseas.
