How the depth of ocean is measured?

How the depth of ocean is measured?The depth of ocean is measured by sound waves. The sound waves are sent down. These are reflected back from the bottom of the sea. Then the total time taken by the sound waves in coming back is measured and divided in half.

The speed of sound in air, water and steel at 0ºC are as under:

Air 331 meter per second.
Water 1450 meter per second.
Steel 5000 meter per second.
