Who was the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations of India in 2009?

India celebrated 60th Republic Day on 26th January 2009, amid heavy security arrangement, showcasing its military might as well as kaleidoscopic images of cultural diversity.

President Pratibha Patil tool salute from marching contingents – who marched down from the presidential palace to historic Red Fort – at the India Gate lawns. The march-past was watched by chief guest Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari, Defence Minister AK Antony. Since Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is recuperating from a heart surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Antony performed all the customary duties of the prime minister during the Republic Day celebrations.
