Jyotiraditya ScindiaJyotiraditya Scindia was born in Mumbai to Madhavrao Scindia and Madhavi Raje Scindia. He was born on January 1st, 1971 in Mumbai. Shri. Scindia is a descendant of the dynasty belonging to the Scindia Maratha clan that ruled Gwalior State in 17th and 18th centuries, being a grandson of the last princely ruler of Gwalior. In the 26th amendment to the Constitution of India promulgated in 1971, the Government of India abolished all official symbols of princely India, including titles, privileges, and remuneration. Royally his name will be called as “H.H. Ali Jah, Umdat ul-Umara, Hisam us-Sultanat, Mukhtar ul-Mulk, Azim ul-Iqtidar, Rafi-us-Shan, Wala Shikoh, Muhtasham-i-Dauran, Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Shrimant Jyotiraditya Rao Scindia, Shrinath, Mansur-i-Zaman, Fidvi-i-Hazrat-i-Malika-i-Mua’zzama-i-Rafi-ud-Darja-i-Inglistan, Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior”.

He studied at Campion School, Mumbai before going on to The Doon School in Dehradun. After graduating from The Doon School in Dehradun, Shri. Scindia received a B.A. in Economics in 1993 from Harvard University in the United States and an M.B.A. in 2001 from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, also in the United States. He worked as an investment banker for Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley and also gained some development experience working as an intern with the UN Economic Development Cell and in fact had the distinction of being the only under-graduate intern there. He also did a course in car racing from the U.S. He is known to be one of the most focused and hard-working students at college and also one of the most dedicated workers at his workplace.

After his father, Madhavrao Scindia, died an untimely death in an unfortunate air crash, the seat in his political constituency fell vacant. Jyotir Aditya Scindia was the natural choice as he knew his constituency well. He had campaigned for his father at a mere age of 13. Jyotiraditya Scindia was elected to the Lok Sabha (Lower House of the Indian Parliament) in February 2002 from Guna District – formerly represented by his father – with a margin of victory of more than 450,000 votes. He was re-elected to the 14th Lok Sabha when he won the elections in May 2004. He retained the seat in the 2009 general elections and was inducted in the Cabinet for the first time as Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry Government of India.

He is known to be a sportsman-politician and is known to have encouraged Indian sports and get them international recognition. Jyotiraditya Scindia is an avid sportsman himself and is often spotted at polo matches. Right now Shrimant Jyotiraditya Scindia is serving as Minister of State for Industries in Government of India, President – Board of Member of Scindia School Gwalior Fort, Chairman – Board of Samrat Ashok Technical Institute (Vidisha), Chairman – Maharaja Jiyaji Rao Scindia Educational Soc. 2001-2004, Member Board Of Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Board Member of Delhi Golf Club, Board Member DLF Golf Course, Board Member Classic Golf Course, Board Member Delhi Gymkhana, Board Member India International Center, Board Member India Habitat Center, President – Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, Board Member disciplinary committee of Board of control of cricket in India.

Jyotiraditya is married to Smt. Priyadarshini, who hails from the erstwhile royal Gaekwad family of Baroda. He has two children, a son, Mahanaryaman Scindia, born in November 1997 and a daughter, Ananya, born April 2002. His daughter studies at the Sanskriti School in Delhi and his son studies at the Doon School in Dehradun. His wife is involved with the running of the Usha Kiran Hotel and the renovation of the Jai Vilas Palace Museum in Gwalior.

He is the face of the future of India and with his efforts, the Indian politics will definitely touch new heights.
