Steam Roller

Here is another jolly little toy model that can be easily made and given as a present to one of your many friends. It will cost practically nothing to build and does make a really fine steam roller. All that you will need in the way of materials is three old cotton reels, some paper clips, a few pieces of wire and a spot of paint. Let us make the rollers first. These are fashioned from cotton reels with the ends cut off and well sandpapered, making one larger than the other, as illustrated. The boiler of the steam roller is a piece of round wood cut about I ½ in. long. This boiler is attached to the two rollers by bending paper clips as detailed in the diagram, with the ends sticking into the boiler in tiny drilled holes.

A very realistic funnel can be fashioned from a piece of round wood, about ½ in. long, tapered as shown and stuck in the top of the boiler in a small hole. The limitation mechanical details show on the top of the boiler are all made from pieces of wire, cut and bent as pictured. The end of these are fastened into little pierced holes. Now we come to the painting. Make the funnel a shiny black, the boiler a brilliant red and the outsides of each roller a nice shade of grey, leaving the surface plain.
