After the events of Ice Age: The Meltdown, life begins to change for Manny (Ray Romano) and his friends: Scrat is still on the hunt to hold onto his beloved acorn, while finding a possible romance in a female sabre-toothed squirrel named Scratte. Manny and his new wife Ellie (Queen Latifah) are expecting a baby, which leaves Manny anxious to ensure that everything is perfect for when his baby arrives.
Diego (Denis Leary) is fed up with being treated like a house-cat and ponders the notion that he is becoming too laid-back. Sid (John Leguizamo) begins to wish for a family of his own, and so steals some dinosaur eggs which leads to Sid ending up in a strange underground world where his herd must rescue him, while dodging dinosaurs and facing danger left and right, and meeting up with a cyclops weasel known as Buck (Simon Pegg) who hunts dinosaurs intently.

The franchise carries on showcasing its brilliant art work, its warm and vibrant characters and its straight-from-the-heart story of team spirit and survival, of not only the fittest, but the weakest too. Yes, Ice Age 3 is a fitting sequel to the animal saga that turned out to be a moving human parable when it was first released in 2002.
The Ice Age is on and the herd's still travelling. Manny (Ray Romano) and Elle (Queen Latifah), the woolly mammoths are all set to become proud parents which makes Diego (Denis Leary) a bit unsure of his position in the family. Bothered by his loss of agility too, he decides to move on by himself and bids good-bye to his buddies. This leaves Sid (John Leguizami), the dimwit sloth somewhat confused as he wanders off in a cave, only to find three giant eggs. Settle down for a delightful sequence where Sid tries to bring the eggs up without breaking them and preserve them as his own, until they hatch. But when the eggs hatch into baby dinosaurs, the angry mother dinosaur walks off with her babies and Sid too, setting the pace for a save-Sid mission which sees the herd getting back again. But travelling through dino territory isn't easy and surely not possible without the help of the smart-alec weasel, Buck who has his own scores to settle with the meanest dinosaur in this pre-historic Jurassic Park.
Excellent in 3-D and eminently watchable in 2-D too, Ice Age 3 is indeed alluring fare for the family. |
