The first private Hyperbaric Treatment centre was started at the Apollo Hospital, New Delhi by Dr. Tarun Sahni, Senior Consultant, Internal & Hyperbaric Medicine, considered a pioneer for this treatment in India. Since it began operations on May 1, 2000, over 1500 patients with various diseases had benefited from this treatment till Dec. 2005. Considered a unique platform integrating technology with clinical medicine, this special chamber was designed and manufactured for the first time in India by Kasco Industries, Pune, Maharashtra. While oxygen bars also claim beneficial results, there is a difference. In oxygen bars, oxygen is delivered at normal atmospheric pressure so the amount dissolved in the plasma goes up only minimally. While administering hyperbaric oxygen, increased pressure is used. This forces oxygen into solution that is substantial enough to have an impact on the healing process. Insurance companies across the world reimburse costs incurred on hyperbaric oxygen. That is not so with oxygen bars that are considered cosmetic. |
