Kathalaya's Kathotsava 05 - the First International Storytelling Festival in India was held in Bangalore from June 24 - July 10, 2005 by Kathalaya - The House of Stories, a trust dedicated to 'making a positive social change in education through storytelling and folk arts'.

The international storytellers were Edgar Ortiz from Costa Rica, Mama Nomusa Xaba from the USA, and the Gaishi Puppet Theatre of Japan. The storytellers from India were Geeta Ramanujam, Jayamma and team, Prakash Garud and team, Veena, Dattatreya Aralikatti, Mallaiah and Yakshagana by Yakshadegula children. Geeta Ramanujam the chief founder of Kathalaya and Lalu Narayan the co-founder. Kathalaya's slogan: The Universe is made up of Stories not atoms. Children who attended the shows: 5,661, Adults who attended the shows: 1,000.
