France's Alstom Transport announced late 06 June 2007, that it had won a contract to supply operations systems for the Indian capital's metro rail network worth 63.8 million USD (45.5 million Euros). Alstom, which builds the high-speed TGV train, will supply the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation with a train control and signaling system covering 37 kilometers (23 miles) in the sprawling city of 14 million. The metro system in New Delhi has become a showpiece for the emerging economic superpower with a 65-kilometer first phase finished nearly three years ahead of schedule in 2005, well within its 2.3 billion USD budget and without scandal. |
