World's tallest Lego Christmas tree lights-up St Pancras

What has 600,000 pieces, reaches 40ft-high and welcomes travellers as they jump off the Eurostar? No it's not a giant Boris Johnson jigsaw, it's the world's tallest Lego Christmas tree.

Unveiled in the main concourse of St Pancras Station last week, the festive construction took two months to build and now dominates the shop-lined thoroughfare.

David Buxbaum, marketing director at Lego told Toy News: "The Lego brand is all about play and creativity and Christmas is the time for celebration and fun.

"This magnificent Christmas tree is a shining example of these values and shows that with Lego bricks you can let your imagination run wild and build anything.

"We hope that it will work to remind people that Lego toys are the Christmas gift that keeps on giving."

Children from Edith Neville Primary School in Camden and Copenhagen Primary School in Islington helped put the tree together, along with the Harpenden Explorer Scouts.

The successful construction is the latest piece of good news for the Danish toy-maker that announced a 25 per cent increase in its half year sales earlier in the year. Their success despite difficult times for retailers, has been put down to a return by parents to familiar brands they know and trust.

With a gigantic and impressive advert smack bang in the middle of one of London's busiest international stations, we wouldn't be surprised if their Christmas sales receive a bit of a boost as well.
