Like other parts of the world and country, the International Labour Day will be observed in the city on May 1.

The Karachi Press Club will organise a “Mushaira” on the day. The programme will start at 8:00pm. A number of labourers, workers, political and social organisations have also chalked out programmes for the day, when rallies by labour bodies will be taken out.

The spirit of honest, dedicated labour is cherished by both the modern philosophy of work for wages and the age-old religious thought of earning through legitimate means.

The Day is observed in the memory of the labourers who sacrificed their lives in the 1860s in the US city of Chicago, struggling against tyranny.

A number of labour, worker, political, social and other organisations have also chalked out programmes for the day when rallies by labour bodies will also be taken out to highlight the contribution of labour and the need to resolve some of their current pressing problems.
