We all know people who are dying to get an iPhone or an iPad, but a Chinese teen took things to the extreme when he sold his kidney to be able to get an iPhone and an iPad.

The 17-year-old Chinese boy was given the equivalent of US$3,500 for selling one of his kidneys to a group in the human organs trade.

Five of the group's members were caught and charged with "intentional injury." One of the culprits is a surgeon.

Reports further stated the boy came from one of China's poorest provinces, Anhui.

The human organs trade was banned in China by 2007, at a time when people were selling their organs just to make ends meet.

It is believed that a profitable black market for organs exists since fewer than 10,000 organs are available for donation.
