The pavilion of Ministry of Water Resources was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Water Resources Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal at the 29th Edition of India International Trade Fair (IITF-2009) being organised by ITPO in Pragati Maidan here today. The pavilion has been erected in Hall No. 7-E from 14th to 27th November, 2009. The pavilion carries different exhibitory materials viz. working models, trans-slides, banners, posters etc. The Prime Minister in his speech on Independence Day, 2009 has stressed the desirability of developing Save Water as one of the National slogans of the country. Accordingly, the theme of the pavilion is “SAVE WATER – EVERY DROP COUNTS”.
Keeping in view the increasing scarcity of water resources, the conservation and judicious use of water has assumed great importance. Accordingly, the techniques of rainwater harvesting, artificial recharge to groundwater and nuances of integrated water resource development and management are being exhibited through interactive models and other means to spread awareness and education among visitors. The models are being explained to the visitors by resource persons of relevant fields to ensure that the people are motivated to adopt the techniques for conservation of water.
Children constitute one of the most important clientele groups in focus for awareness campaign of the ministry. The ministry has sought to involve them through a blend of traditional and electronic media. Accordingly, a “Student Corner” has been provided in the pavilion where a nukkad natak, which is a traditional art form and the quiz show through touch screen on various aspects of water are also being organised to attract and educate children especially the students about issues relating to water resources management.
Several organisations under the Ministry viz. Central Water Commission (CWC), Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), National Water Development Agency (NWDA), Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS), National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Central Water & Power Research Station (CWPRS), and PSUs viz. WAPCOS and NPCC have also exhibited their models and other exhibitory materials to showcase their activities and achievements. |
