PETA volunteers caught the attention of many as they painted themselves green and took out a demonstration on "Go Vegan for Earth Day" at the busy VIP road on Friday.
Two PETA volunteers, Rachna Singh and Mayank Telang, painted their bodies green and held placards with slogans "Eat Green and Go Vegan."
Rachna Singh, who came from Indore to be part of the demonstration, said she had taken up vegetarianism at an early stage even though her family members are not vegetarians. Unlike traditional vegetarians, this RGPV student also condemned dairy products animals are sometimes treated with injections for more produce.
Mayank Telang, a street theatre artiste and founder of an NGO, also condemned dairy products not just meat. "Many vegetarians are not aware that animals are tortured for dairy products just as much as meat," he said.
Speaking on the style of demonstration, Rachna said, "I don't think this was a bold move. I had seen snaps of a Mumbai demonstration previously and had liked the idea. So I decided to volunteer when I heard about a similar initiative in Bhopal."
"The idea was novel and caught the eye of many. It was also a successful initiative as many people came to us for more information and showed interest," Mayank added.
Another PETA India campaigner Chani Singh said people can help protect Earth, their health and countless animals just by changing their diets.
