With the auspicious Sikh festival Guru Nanak Jayanti nearing, preparations for celebrations have started. Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik on Sunday celebrated Gurpurb with the senior citizens at the Old Age Home in Sector 15. Over 35 senior citizens and 70 rotary members and their families, participated in the celebrations.

The programme started with kirtan by professor Jagir Singh, who enthralled the audience with his mellifluous voice. This was followed by a langar, which was served by the members to the senior citizens in their rooms.

A senior citizen and resident of the Old Age Home, Maya Awasthi said, "This was a wonderful experience for all of us. The warmth and affection with which the Rotarians looked after us really touched our hearts. The Old Age Home already has all the facilities for us and such occasions and festivities add to the joy of living here in our golden years."

Another senior citizen, Saroj Sethi said, "We were all overjoyed by the thoughtful approach, care and respect shown towards us, which showed that senior citizens are still an important part of society."
