Facebook mulls giving access to children under 13

but under parental supervision...

Facebook is now considering allowing children under 13 to have their profiles on the site but under parental supervision. It is planning measures such as connecting children's accounts to their parents' accounts, and parents having final say on whom their kids become friends with on Facebook.

Facebook currently does not allow children under 13 because federal law requires companies to obtain parental consent if they want to collect information about those children.

But that ban is difficult to enforce as many lie about their ages. Facebook recently said that it is difficult it is to enforce age restrictions on the Internet, especially when parents want their children to access online content and services.
