If you're an avid cyclist in a heavily populated area, the chances of having your bike stolen - even with a lock - are pretty good.

However, one bike owner in China has come up with a novel way to protect his bike from would-be thieves.

Meet Li Li, his golden retriever.

As you can see in the video, the dog sits on its haunches, waiting patiently at the bike for his owner to return.

Once the owner comes back, Li Li hops on the back of the bike and off they go.

It's certainly a novel way to protect your bike, but one can only wonder how dangerous it is for the dog, as it doesn't appear to be strapped in or secured in any way to the back of the bike.

Whatever works, I suppose.
