That's one of the options suggested by CWG Organizing Committee chairman, Suresh Kalmadi, to ensure things fall in place. We find out how if Rahul's presence will make all that difference...

A brand ambassador represents the product they endorse. People look up to celebs, because they connect with the masses.

Aparna Poppat, badminton player advocates why Rahul is the best choice to be the leader of CWG. "Youngsters in India look up to Rahul Gandhi.

He has been a superb leader. Unlike other politicians, he has visited villages, spent time with poor people and has been a spotless neta. There are around 65 per cent teenagers living in India, a youth icon would be the best bet to represent India.

A piece of advice for junior Gandhi: don't mix politics with sports." So, if Rahul Gandhi accepts Kalmadi's proposition, he'll not be the brand ambassador of the Congress party but our nation. Says Dipika Pallikal, squash player, "The games do not belong to any party or person.

They don't come with a price tag or brand value. If the Indian government decides to put up Rahul as the image of CWG, then there is nothing wrong with that. He is a known figure in the world and can add the extra grace and persona needed for the job."

But why Rahul of all people?

Where have all the sportsperson gone, questions KPS Gill, president Indian Hockey federation. "How many medals has Rahul won that he should represent India? Politicians should be kept away from the Games.

Rio has named Pele their brand ambassador, seven years prior to the 2016 Olympics. Rahul is being roped in to improve the dented image of the Games. This is not acceptable. The government should not take this as their political achievement."

If Rahul is not the right choice then who can be the CWG's brand ambassador? Samika Mehta, junior Davis Cup player comments, "How about PT Usha, Leander Paes, Dhanraj Pillai or Vijay Amritraj? They can market the games better than Rahul." In fact, history is repeating itself, says Charu Sharma, sports commentator: "Rajiv Gandhi was the face of 1982 Asian Games.

Now, the government is marketing Rahul as the face of Commonwealth Games. What is Rahul going to do after all? Being part of the shooting team during college is no qualification to make you the leader of the Games. The Games' work is not done and they need someone substantial who can allocate the necessary funds and speed up the work. Rahul Gandhi fits into the criteria totally that way!"
