Bollywood ‘s reigning superstar Shahrukh Khan walked away with the Best actor award at the 53rd Filmfare award on Saturday. He was awarded the best actor for his performance as Kabir Khan, skipper of the impossible Women’s hockey team in "Chak De India". Kareena Kapur was awarded the best actress award for her bubbly, sizzling performance in the romantic comedy, "Jab we met". Imtiaz Ali won "best dialogue" for "Jab We met". But the movie that won most plaudits was Taarein Zameen Par. It won the coveted Best Film, best Director for Aamir Khan and numerous other prizes. Darsheel Safary was hailed as best actor , by critics for his outstanding performance as the protagonist Ishaan Awasthi, whose battle with dyslexia, lights up the story of "Taarein Zameen Par". TZP also won Best story for Amol Gupte, and Best Lyricist for Prasoon Joshi. Aamir Khan who shuns award ceremonies was typically absent at this one, missing the rich haul of awards for his movie. "Chak de India" which won Best actor for Sharukh also earned awards for best cinematography and the critic’s choice for Best film. Shimit Amin won the best film critics award for "Chak De India".
Critic’s award for best actress was won by Tabu for a charming role in "Cheeni Kum". Konkona sen Sharma and Irfan khan won the best supporting female and male categories for their turn as a romantic couple in "Life in a Metro". The best screenplay award was also given to Anurag Basu for Life in a metro. Rishi Kapoor was awarded a Lifetime achievements award. Filmfare power awards were given to Yash chopra and Aditya Chopra. Rishi Kapoor’s son, Ranbir Kapoor won best debutant award for Saawariyan along with Deepika Padukone for Om Shanti Om. Deepika also bagged the Sony Head N Shoulders Fresh Face Of The Year award. The RD Burman award went to Monty Sharma for "Saawariyan". The Best music director and background music award went to A.R. Rehman for Guru. Guru earned best choreography award for Saroj Khan (Barso Re) and Best female playback for Shreya Ghosal (Barso Re). Shaan bagged best male playback for "Saawariyan" (Jab se Tere Naina) Red Chillies Entertainment was awarded for best special effects for "Om Shanti Om".
