Divya Nayar
Bharatakala Dance School
Indian Claasical Dance > Bharata Natyam
Divya studied Bharatanatyam at the Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts, in Chennai, India where she learnt the fundamentals of the strong geometric stances and clean linear style characteristic of the Kalakshetra tradition.
When Divya had her first dance performance at the age of 4, she realised at that young age that the stage was her home, and today her performances excude an ease and confidence that audiences applaud.
Even though Divya's style remains strongly rooted to the Kalakshetra tradition she takes creative liberties and imbibes her own style in her works and performances.
As a teacher, She is a strong disciplinarian and strives to intitate her students into the wonderful world of Bharatanatyam.
Divya is also a disciple of carnatic music and has had the opportunity to learn from stalwarts in the field such as Manakkal Sri Rangarajan, Smt. Mani Krishnaswamy, and Vaigal Sri Gnanaskandan. She performs as a semi-classical and ghazal singer in the tri-state area. |
