Meet Mastram, the quintessential writer of the 80s who spoke the lingo of the Hindi heartland – literally. The 10 episodes feature stories of passion intertwined with turbulent day-to-day scenarios from Mastram’s real life.
Out of a blue moon, MX Player has released their new web series Mastram, which is inspired by 2014 film of the same name. Interestingly, both the film and a web series have the same lead heroine Tara Alisha Berry. Well, the lead role has been played by Anshuman Jha, who has already worked in films like Love Sex Aur Dhokha and Mona Darling.
Mastram web series has been written by Aryan Sunil, who has done a great job. The words used during sensual scenes are the highlight of this web series. The music of the series has been given by Ashish Chhabra and Ulluminati, which synced perfectly with the visuals and dialogues.
The series has been single handedly taken care by the lead actor Anshuman Jha, who has played the role of Raja Ram in a soft and subtle way. The series has been set in the 80’s era and it is a perfect tribute to the people of 80 and 90’s era, where there were no phones. The only big source of entertainment were with reading books.
Though, there were dubbing issues at several scenes but overall it has worked well. The series has 10 episodes and I wish it could have been just 8 episodes. The overall length of the web series is around 5 hours that could be cut short for 45 to 50 minutes easily to make it more crispier.
Interestingly, Mastram web series is completely free which is a good thing for the users to watch. On the other side, there are many OTT platforms where such kind of web series are heavily paid but doesn’t give much to the audience, in terms of story.
Altogether, Mastram is a great attempt from the makers but it could be much better than it was.
