When is Surajkund Craft Mela? The Surajkund Crafts Mela is held every year from 02nd February to 18th February in Surajkund, Faridabad, Haryana. First time it was held in year 1981. Surajkund Crafts Mela is for displaying folk arts and crafts from all over the nation. Surajkund Handicrafts Fair is a unique opportunity for the talented artists, weavers, painters, sculptors and craftsmen from different regions of India, to display their skill. The whole preparation of the fair is done, keeping a particular state in mind. Every year a new state is chosen as the theme and the entire decoration is changed accordingly. Handicrafts of some of the states showcased at the Surajkund Crafts Mela are:

When is Surajkund Craft Mela?

  • Banjara and Bunni embroidery of Gujarat
  • Phulkari embroidery of Punjab
  • Lace and crochet from Goa
  • Sandalwood and rosewood carving of South India
  • Kantha work of West Bengal and North Eastern states
  • Chikankari of Lucknow
  • Chikri woodcraft of Kashmir

The festival is highlighted by the special Natyashala folk dances and musical evenings, organized at the open-air theatre.

The Mela is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs. For the 37th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2024, the state of Gujarat has been chosen to be the Theme State. At least 20 countries & all the states of India will be participating in the Mela.

A large number of renowned national and international folk artistes and cultural groups present day performances at both the Chaupals, the open-air theatres, located in the Mela premises. Also enthralling cultural evening programmes are held at the main Chaupal during each of the Mela evening. The Mela is indeed a custodian of the heritage crafts involving use of traditional skills that are fading away due to cheap machine made imitations, and a special section is earmarked for showcasing of these heritage crafts.

The multi-cuisine Food Court provides ethnic cuisines from all over the world, which are immensely popular with visitors. There are designated places for amusement, adventure sports and joy rides to make it a must visit event for the young.
