Utsav Sharma – A Hero or Villain?

Utsav Sharma - A Hero or Villain? Two days after Utsav Sharma, 30, attacked Dr Rajesh Talwar, social networking sites have received sharp reactions over the act with many users calling him a ‘hero’ and others denouncing his act. Sharma had attacked former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore in a similar fashion in February 2010. One user, Himanshu Agarwal, on Facebook community page ‘Utsav Sharma – Hero or Villain’, called Sharma “a real life hero…one whom we can really call an Indian.”

Nikee Raju on the same page terms Sharma as “not a hero or villain but an intelligent and smart frustrated youngster.”

Ashish Bali, another user, stated he doesn’t really think that Sharma was ill. “People think he is mad or mentally disturbed because he does it in front of everyone. I don’t think a mad person can get admission in NID and even get gold medal…” read Bali’s post.

Other users denounced Sharma’s act. Sumit Singh said: “It is an irresponsible behaviour and a confused mind creating trouble for himself and the society. Definitely a villain for me.”

Utsav Sharma - A Hero or Villain?Sharma’s mother – Indira Sharma – who came from Varanasi to take recourse to legal help in Sharma’s case, said people just want to appreciate her son as they themselves could not do anything against the system.

“I am regretful of the attack on Dr Rajesh Talwar. Utsav is mentally unstable. People want action against injustice and the corruption. But they have no will and courage to fight. Just because my son did some act, they feel happy,” she said. “But they should also remember that he alone will face legal consequences and no one will come forward to his help,” she added.

Sharma’s parents met him at Dasna jail today. “We will moving court by Monday. He is not a criminal and needs treatment,” his mother said.
