To Teacher, With Love

To Teacher With Love From Cinema Celebrities

To Teacher With Love From Bollywood: It’s back to that day of September when we remember the ones who’ve been instrumental in shaping our careers. On this very special day, we ask a few Bollywood celebs about their favorite teachers

In love with English

Kalki Koechlin: My favorite teacher was my English teacher, Mrs Grimes. She was a very strict, elderly English lady. She taught me how empowering reading can be. English became my favorite subject because of her.

Friend, guide, philosopher…

Ali Fazal: My teacher Mr. Peter Collins, from La Martiniere College, Lucknow, before I went to Doon School, taught me maths in grade 5 and 6. And what stuck with me was — “Maths is emotional and emotions aren’t mathematical. It is love hate.” I forget the actual way he framed it. But, I remember, I started seeing the subject differently for the rest of my life. My teacher – Mr. PK Nair, from Doon School, also my housemaster at the time, for some weird reason understood me. I don’t know if I did him proud, but I learnt that I could hold my own and not get buried under the fad of the month. Also it is my dad’s birthday, so Teachers’ Day just means a whole lot more to me. Life, the greatest teacher: To Teacher With Love

Sophie Choudry: On Teachers Day, I would like to thank my mom for making me, who I am, for strength, vision and clarity. Also a big thank you to Neeraj Kabi for inspiring me. And most of all, I would want to say a big thank you to life for being the best teacher.

Much more than a teacher (To Teacher With Love)

Vir Das: My favorite teacher was my English teacher in DPS Noida, called Mrs. Surjeet Khanna. In an environment where anything apart from academics was considered nonsense, she fought for me to do more. She fought for me to debate, do dramatics and sports. I remember a PTA meeting where she actually yelled at my parents and said “Don’t you understand he is really good at this? Let him do it!” She showed me that if she could believe in me to that level, so could I. I owe my career and my strength to her as I imagine so many other students that she influenced.

The eye of an eagle

Taapsee Pannu: Actually my English teachers from Class IX till Class XII have been my favorites, be it Raka Mukherjee or Shipra Batra. They all have been there to encourage me to be a public speaker and a leader, which eventually shaped a major part of my personality. I remember one instance when Ms. Raka Mukherjee told me that acting comes naturally to me and I should take it seriously. I never took this advice seriously as I hardly participated in school plays or dramas until destiny made me an actor and now I just can never forget how she could foresee it.

Begins and ends with mother

Kriti Sanon: My favorite teacher would have to be my mom. She is a professor in Delhi University. She used to help me in all the subjects when I was in school. She would teach me, make notes at home, take my tests and help me revise. I disliked maths to begin with. But she made me fall in love with maths. So yeah, whether it is academics or life in general, my mom has been my best teacher.
