Air India has begun a global hunt for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) in order to streamline operations and help it come out from financial losses of over USD four billion. As per the airline’s advertisement in major newspapers like the Financial Times and many more, the airline stated that preference will be given to those who are in the aviation industry or in the past had turned around the performance of a large organization with manpower strength of over 1,000. The COO will be based out of the airline’s headquarters in Mumbai and will report directly to the Chairman and Managing Director. However, the airline did not indicate the pay package it was offering but mentioned that the pay would be based on qualifications and experience.

The airline mentioned that the contract will be for three years to begin with, which will be extended by another two years based on the performance. The lookout for a COO was formally announced by Arvind Jadhav, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India last month as part of his turnaround strategy for the airline. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has also recommended fresh government equity for the airline for acquisition of new aircraft and to help in tiding over one of the worst crises it has ever faced. MoCA has, however, ruled out any dilution of shares it owns in the public sector company.
