In the month of Sravan, after the coming of the rains, girls put up swings on trees near their homes. One sits on the swing and another pushes it. The girl on the swing tries to raise it higher and higher and higher, singing a song all the while.

Sometimes one of the older girls puts a young one on her lap while she swings higher and higher, holding the frightened baby fast to her waist.

The one who can swing highest is the winner.
