About Us
Every event at the Barbican is assigned a dedicated Event Manager to co-ordinate your requirements. This gives you a single, professional point of contact from the moment your booking is confirmed. Your Event Manager will be pleased to discuss every aspect of your event with you, including all catering and technical requirements.
Venue Services
Shell scheme is hired from the Barbican on a per show basis. The panels that make up shell scheme walls are covered in mid-grey nylon loop fabric. Exhibits and display materials up to 1kg can be fixed using Velcro; any heavier displays can be supported with an alternative system. Name Boards are 1500mm in length and 160mm wide. The lettering will be black on a white background and the wording required should be ordered by each exhibitor on an appropriate form. Alternative colors and/or logos are available by special arrangement.
Flooring
All stand and gangway areas within the halls are covered with grey carpet tiles. If any exhibitor wishes to carpet their stand a platform must be laid prior to doing so. Exhibitor’s carpet can then be affixed to a platform and must be finished with a safety trim or edging strip. Carpet must not be laid directly onto the Hall carpet.
Space Only Sites
Exhibitors using ‘space only’ sites should be made aware that this does not entitle them to shell walling, a name panel, stand number or an electrical package. Any exhibitor with a ‘space only’ stand in excess of 35m2 or more than 4m in height must submit detailed plans of their stand to Hall Management at least one month prior to the event for approval by the Corporation of London’s District Surveyors Office. All stand materials must conform to the Corporation of London Exhibitions and Similar Displays Standard Conditions.
Stand Electrics
Hall Management would recommend that the Barbican’s electrical contractor RG Exhibitions Ltd. carry out all electrical work on shell scheme stands. Exhibitors are permitted to employ their own technicians to install exhibits however, connection to the hall supply must be carried out by KR Exhibitions Ltd..
The Halls electrical supply is:
• Standard single phase 240V 50 Cycles
• Three phase 415V 50 Cycles
• By arrangement 24 hours supply
Any special displays, such as lasers, strobes etc, must have prior approval from the Licensing Authority and any such requests must be made through Hall Management at least one month prior to the event.

Insurance For Organiser
Under the terms of the Hiring Agreement and the Standard Conditions, the Corporation must be indemnified against all losses, liabilities, claims and expenses in respect of injury, loss or damage to persons or property during your stay in the Exhibition Halls. It is recommended that Organisers also take out insurance to cover themselves against cancellation of an event.
For Exhibitors
It is recommended that all Exhibitors take out insurance to cover themselves against loss of property damage to their stand, etc.
Car Parking
A number of car parking spaces are available in the NCP car parks at the Barbican and spaces may be booked by event organisers and exhibitors by arrangement with NCP no later than 14 days before the start of the event.
Pre-paid parking charges for events only
Mon- Fri: 0800 - 2400 hours, £12.00 inc. VAT and is payable in advance.
Sat – Sun: £5.00 inc. VAT (flat rate for all parkers), payable on departure.
Please note that disabled parking is free - this can be arranged with Hall Management.
Signage
Basic signage for toilets, catering points, exits etc, are provided within the halls. Directional signage for your event will also be provided from the Barbican Centre to the Exhibition Hall on each of the event open days. Information boards displaying forthcoming events are available in both White cross Street and Golden Lane, and can feature the title and dates of your event some weeks in advance of the commencement of your tenancy. Business Facilities
A range of Business Facilities, including photocopying, faxing, binding etc are available from the Hall Management Office, for which a charge will be levied.
Fire prevention
Both Halls are fully equipped with smoke detectors and a sprinkler system. The statutory number of fire extinguishers and fire hose reels are in place and must remain visible at all times. A Barbican Fire Officer is on duty throughout the open hours of all events.
Gas
No gas is available in the Exhibition Halls.
Heating and ventilation
The Halls are heated and air-conditioned to provide a comfortable temperature throughout the open hours of your event.
Music and live entertainment
It is imperative that Hall Management is kept informed with regard to all activities and entertainment planned during your tenancy. Any form of music or entertainment may require a license, the cost of which will be the responsibility of the Organiser.
Painting
The Exhibition Halls are a ‘dry site’ and no painting of stands should be carried out on site.
Security
The Barbican Centre employs a team of security personnel sufficient for day to day security purposes. We are able to provide additional security, front of house and traffic marshalling staff to meet the requirements of the Organiser, at very competitive rates. |
