Thanksgiving Prayer: American Culture & Tradition

Thanksgiving Prayer For A Good Harvest Season

Thanksgiving Prayer For A Good Harvest Season: Thanksgiving is the time of the year when friends and family members get together to celebrate the harvest season and express gratitude for a good harvest. It is observed by preparing delicacies and mouth-watering dishes. Primarily, the festival is celebrated in Canada and the United States, but with globalization and the recent intermingling of different cultures and traditions, it has assumed more or less a secular form. A major aspect of the festival is to say thanks to the Lord, for His kindness and guidance. Although there are no official prayers for the occasion, words of gratitude have been offered since long, even before the American tradition began in the 1620s. At the historic feast shared by the Pilgrims with the Wampanoag Indians as well, prayers of thanks were said aloud and dedicated to the Lord. A typical way of offering Thanksgiving prayer is by holding hands during the dinner time, with the heads bowed and saying words of gratitude before the meal is served on the table. A very beautiful prayer by Larry Ferrar is given below in this article. Go through it and offer your sincere gratitude to the Lord, this season.

Thanksgiving Prayer For A Good Harvest Season

~ By Larry Ferrar

We are gathered together to give thanks to God.
You have given unto us all that we have.
You have given us our children and we are thankful.
You have given us our food and we are thankful.
You have given us clothes and we are thankful. You have given us eyes to see, ears to hear, mouth to talk, legs to walk, and we are thankful.
We may not have a Mercedes, we may not have house in the suburbs, we may not even have a job, we many not have money, but we do have life, we do have our soul, and we do have you, God and for that we are thankful.
We just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you Lord, for being our God.
Amen, Amen.
