Traditional Songs For New Year

Auld Lang Syne:

~ Scottish Poem

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
And old lang syne?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
And surely i’ll buy mine !
And we’ll take a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
CHORUS

We two have run about the slopes,
And picked the daisies fine ;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
Since auld lang syne.
CHORUS

We two have paddled in the stream,
From morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us broad have roared
Since auld lang syne.
CHORUS

And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
For auld lang syne.
CHORUS

It was a Very Good Year Lyrics:

~ By Ervin Drake

When I was seventeen it was a very good year.
It was a very good year for small town girls,
And soft summer nights, we’d hide from the lights,
On the village green, when I was seventeen.

When I was twenty-one it was a very good year.
It was a very good year for city girls,
Who lived up the stair, with all that perfumed hair,
And it came undone, when I was twenty-one.

When I was thirty-five it was a very good year.
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls,
Of independent means, we’d ride in limousines.
Their chauffeurs would drive, when I was thirty-five.

But now the days are short, I’m in the autumn of the year.
And now I think of my life as vintage wine from fine old kegs.
From the brim to the dregs, it poured sweet and clear.
It was a very good year.
