Indigestion is the most common problem affecting up to 80 percent of population. The major danger with indigestion is that at its early stage no abnormality is discovered, especially in the case of a younger patient. But it is an alarm for serious gastrointestinal problems for those who are over 45. Therefore it is beneficiary to cure this problem at an early stage by improving dietary habits and consulting a specialist. In allopathic view it is known as dyspepsia, a collective term for non-specific symptoms originating in the upper gastrointestinal tract.
These symptoms are:
• Upper abdominal /lower chest pain with or without • Regurgitation, heartburn, & salivation • Anorexia, nausea, vomiting • Bloating belching, flatulence Ayurvedic view: In Ayurveda indigestion is known as ajirn or agnimandya, when food is not properly digested during the digestion process. The main doshas causing indigestion are vat, pitta & kapha. There are four types of ajirn according to Ayurveda. These are: • Visragdhajirn - caused by Vat • Vidagdhajirn - caused by Pitta • Aamajirn-caused by Kapha • Rassheshajirn-caused by Rasa Dhatu Symptoms according to Ayurveda: Pain in abdomen, heartburn abdominal distension nausea, vomiting, heart burn, false hunger. Home cure: • Juice of bitter gourd (karela) useful in indigestion • Butter milk with hing and black salt • Lemon juice with a pinch of powdered black pepper, roasted cumin seeds, black salt • Lemon juice prepared with lukewarm warm water mixed with the equal quantities of powdered black pepper, cumin seeds, dry coriander leafs, thyme &black salt in water • Water prepared boiling with rice and mix hing, black salt in water. • Every day before meal salt and ginger paste (chutney) useful. Therapeutically remedies: • Lavangadi vati • Gandhak vati • Agnikumar ras • Agnisandipan vati. • Karpoorasav • Shankh vati • Mahashankh vati • Panchaamrit vati
